An operation carried out in the town of Barrios Unidos managed to dismantle a drug sales point that operated inside a bar in the La Esperanza neighborhood, Bogotá. This important result was possible thanks to the support of an anti-narcotics dog from the Metropolitan Police, which helped detect illicit substances hidden at the site.

The action was carried out within the framework of the Christmas Plan, after residents of the area reported, with concern, the consumption of alcohol and drugs in the streets, as well as the frequent fights that disturbed the nighttime tranquility near several bars. For this reason, on the night of December 19 and the early morning of the 20th, the authorities carried out a series of controls to review documents and search the people present.

In total, three bars were intervened, accused of disturbing coexistence and security. In one of them, located in La Esperanza, the police noticed a strong smell of marijuana. The specialized canine managed to find a bag with about 400 grams of marijuana hidden in the DJ’s area. Although those who were there claimed not to know where the drugs came from, during the search, remains of tusi bags, marijuana cigarettes, three packets of ketamine and a knife were also found, suggesting that illegal substances were consumed and possibly sold in that bar.

In addition, several irregularities were found in the establishment: it did not have a health certificate or authorization from the Official Fire Department, and it had problems with its records at the Chamber of Commerce. For these reasons, the bar was temporarily closed for 10 days, and authorities warned that if this suspension is not met, it could last up to three months.

In another of the bars, although the documentation was in order, a fine was imposed for smoking inside and for exceeding the permitted hours, violations that also affect coexistence. This place was closed for three days. The third bar complied with the regulations, but during the search of the people, three doses of marijuana were seized from a customer who was consuming alcoholic beverages.

This bar in the La Esperanza sector, in Barrios Unidos, was the headache of the neighbors.

Throughout the operation, Coexistence Managers from the Security Secretariat took the opportunity to talk with attendees and raise their awareness about the importance of reporting any situation that affects security and good coexistence in the community.

The authorities highlighted that this success was possible thanks to the joint work of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the Local Mayor’s Office of Barrios Unidos, the Government Secretariat, the Security Secretariat and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).
