Colombian rugby sevens closed a memorable participation in the Ayacucho – Lima 2025 Bolivarian Games, leaving the country’s name high with two outstanding medals.

The Tucanes, the women’s team, had a dream performance by being crowned Bolivarian champions undefeated, demonstrating overwhelming superiority over their rivals.

For its part, the Los Tucanes men’s team fought until the end against the great favorite, Chile, and won a more than deserved silver medal, consolidating tricolor rugby as a key protagonist in the region.

The Tucanes’ path to glory was a true parade of authority and consistency throughout the three days of competition.

The team led by the national staff began the tournament with a resounding 42-0 victory over Costa Rica, setting the tone for the championship with an impenetrable defense and an attack that took advantage of every opportunity.

Triumphs against Peru (33–14) and Paraguay (31–0) followed, consolidating Colombia as the team to beat. In the second round, they once again beat Peru (25-7), reaching the close of the tournament with the gold medal practically assured.

Toucans are very tough! Double podium for Colombia: Women’s gold and men’s silver in Rugby

The title was ratified on December 6 after a tight 12–12 draw against Paraguay, a result that was enough to maintain first position in the final table.

With 17 points accumulated, the Tucanes rose to the top of the podium, demonstrating their hegemony in the Bolivarian women’s rugby sevens.

In contrast, the men’s team had a fierce campaign that began with solid victories against Venezuela (45-21) and Peru (36-5), which ignited the illusion of fighting for gold.

However, the team encountered a powerful rival in Chile, which won both direct duels (0-36 and 12-33).

Despite the loss in the decisive game, the overall performance of the men’s team was solid, allowing them to secure the Bolivarian silver medal.

In this way, with the undefeated gold for the women and the silver achieved by the men after a tough battle, Colombian rugby seven says goodbye to the multidisciplinary event with a historic double podium, which confirms the excellent level and growth of this discipline in the country.
