A gang that operated quickly and violently was dismantled after months of police monitoring. Known as ‘Los Agredo’, its members specialized in the theft of motorcycles, combining direct intimidation and the use of artisanal tools to open the ignition systems.

Their modus operandi included two scenarios: attacking motorcyclists in the street with firearms or taking advantage of the fact that the motorcycles were alone to deactivate them in a matter of seconds with an improvised sledgehammer. After stealing them, the criminals blocked any tracking using signal inhibitors, moving the vehicles to remote areas to ensure their control.

The next step was extortion: the victims received calls demanding sums between three and seven million pesos in exchange for recovering their motorcycles. Those who did not pay saw their vehicles enter the illegal market.

The authorities found the gang after four months of investigative work that allowed them to identify the leaders and their operating scheme. Six raids in the towns of Golondrinas and Montebello resulted in five arrests and the arrest of a 17-year-old teenager. Among those detained are aliases ‘Keiner’, ‘Sunce’, ‘Yorma’, ‘Deiner’ and ‘Pacheco’.

During the operations, two motorcycles, a traumatic weapon, several cell phones and the tool used for the thefts were seized. The adults were sent to prison, while the minor was taken into custody in a preventive detention center.

The Cali Metropolitan Police highlighted that this gang would have been involved in approximately 50 motorcycle thefts, mainly affecting communes 2, 4 and 8, as well as the road between Cali and Yumbo.

With the capture of ‘Los Agredo’, the city hopes to reduce express robberies and send a strong message to those who use violence and extortion to commit crimes.
