The United States confirmed the attack against four vessels that, according to the Department of Defense, were operated by “designated terrorist organizations” and they traveled along known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reported that 14 people died and one survived after the US military launched missiles at the boats.

The North American authorities stated that the ships were transporting narcotics, although they did not offer evidence or identify the groups to which the crew members belonged.

These new attacks are added to a series of bombings ordered in the last two months by the White House, within the framework of a unilateral war against Latin American drug trafficking, which has already left 57 dead and three survivors since August.

According to the Pentagon, the attacks were carried out in international waters, with no injuries among US troops. The survivor was rescued by the Mexican Navy, which suggests that part of the operation could have occurred off the coast of that country.

The images were distributed as “proof of defensive action” on the call “war against narcoterrorism”” promoted by former President Donald Trump.

However, international organizations and Latin American governments have questioned the legality of these actions, describing them as “extrajudicial executions”since there is no authorization from the US Congress or coordination with the countries where the attacks occur.

Human Rights Watch reiterated its concern about the use of force in international waters and the growing tensions that this strategy is generating in the region. In total, 13 bombings have already been recorded in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
