In a judicial decision that shakes the country’s retired military leadership, retired general Rodolfo Palomino was captured. Sources close to the process confirmed that the former officer is already being held in the Bunker facilities of the Attorney General’s Office, where the procedures for his detention are being legalized.

The capture occurs in compliance with a sentence issued by the Special First Instance Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which sentenced him to 7 years in prison for the crime of peddling the influence of a public servant.

The case that convicted the General

The events for which General Palomino was sentenced date back to 2014. According to the judicial file and what was proven by the high court, the then officer used his position and power to try to improperly influence a judicial official.

The investigation determined that Palomino tried to persuade a deputy prosecutor to suspend an arrest warrant against businessman Gonzalo Gallo. The Court found sufficient merit to demonstrate that the general took steps outside his constitutional functions to favor the individual, thus establishing the crime of influence peddling.

Transfer and Custody

After the arrest warrant became effective, the general (r) was transferred under a strict security scheme to the holding cells of the Prosecutor’s Office Bunker in Bogotá. It is expected that in the next few hours the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) will define which will be the detention center where the officer will serve his sentence, given his security conditions and rank.
