Minute30.com .- The Uber platform officially recognized a technical error in its charging systems after a complaint from a user in Medellín, who was billed an astronomical figure that exceeded 1.6 million pesos for a single trip. The incident, which was initially reported as a financial nightmare by citizen Johan Coy, escalated to the company’s directors in Colombia, who confirmed to Minute30.com that, after auditing the case, the rate of $1,624,942 COP was erroneous and the total refund of the surplus has already been made.
What should have been a daily journey from the José María Córdova Airport to the south of the Aburrá Valley became a financial nightmare for citizen Johan Coy. Through their social networks, the user reported a disproportionate charge by the Uber platform, which went from an estimated rate of $127,460 to an actual charge of $1,624,942 COP.
The magnitude of the error, which multiplied the initial value by twelve, not only affected the citizen’s pocketbook, but also ignited the debate about the security of automatic transactions in transportation applications. Given the digital pressure and the seriousness of the case, the company finally spoke out.

After the complaint went viral last Sunday, the platform contacted Minute30 and ruled on the irregularity in this service. The company confirmed that, after conducting an internal audit of Coy’s trip, it was indeed an error in the processing of the fare.
In an official statement sent to this newsroom, the Uber team in Colombia acknowledged the failure:
“Once the user made the report, the case was escalated and we worked on its resolution, which allowed the corresponding refund”.
The company assured that the money return process has already been executed, although the time in which it is reflected will depend on the cycles of the user’s bank.
