A forceful operation by the National Police, the Army and the Attorney General’s Office resulted in the capture of 58 people linked to different criminal structures that operated in the south of Valle del Cauca.
The action took place in Palmira and nearby municipalities with the objective of attacking micro-gangs dedicated to drug trafficking, extortion, illegal carrying of weapons and counterfeiting of currency.

During the operations, 37 people were captured in flagrante delicto and 21 more by court order. The authorities also seized seven firearms, four tons of marijuana, 141 cell phones used to coordinate illegal activities, six motorcycles and two cars reported stolen.

Among those detained are alias ‘Mecha’, accused of distributing drugs near an educational institution, and alias ‘Dorado’, investigated for the murder of social leader Diego Fernando Ruiz Soto, which occurred last March in the municipality of Pradera.
The authorities highlighted that the results of the mega-occupation make it possible to weaken the illegal economies that affect the security of the southwest of the country and reiterated that operations will continue to dismantle the criminal networks that operate in this area of Valle del Cauca.
