The Colombian triathlon began its participation in the XX Bolivarian Games 2025 with an outstanding performance on Agua Dulce Beach, winning three bronze medals in the individual and pairs competitions.
The protagonists of this opening day, held on Wednesday, December 3, were Carolina Velásquez, Carlos Quinchará and Valentina Álvarez, who took to the podium in a day full of emotion and effort. The tests consisted of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running.
In the female branch, María Carolina Velásquez emerged as the main figure by winning the bronze medal in the individual event, completing the demanding course in a time of 1 hour and 59 seconds. His splits were 10:29 in swimming, 32:00 in cycling and 17:26 in the run.
In this same competition, her teammates Valentina Álvarez and Valentina Villa finished in seventh and twelfth positions, respectively. The performance of Velásquez and Álvarez was crucial for the next achievement of the day.
Three bronzes in the debut of the Colombian triathlon in the XX Bolivarian Games
The success continued in the men’s category thanks to Carlos Quinchará, who also won the individual bronze with a final time of 55 minutes and 26 seconds, standing out on a course identical to that of the women.
Quinchará achieved partial times of 9:29 in the water, 29:04 on the bicycle and 15:45 on foot. His teammate, Juan José Giraldo, finished in eleventh position with a cumulative time of 58:02. These individual results also served to classify the test in pairs.
Finally, the national team sealed its day with a third bronze medal in the women’s pairs competition, thanks to the duo of Carolina Velásquez and Valentina Álvarez, leaving only behind Venezuela and Chile.
For its part, the male couple made up of Carlos Quinchará and Juan José Giraldo finished in fourth position. The emotions of the triathlon will continue next Friday, December 5, with the mixed relay event, where Colombia will seek to continue adding medals.
