The National Police, in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and the Kennedy Local Mayor’s Office, seized more than 80 kilos of gunpowder that were intended to be sold illegally in an establishment in the Patio Bonito sector. The operation is part of the prevention and control strategies implemented to protect citizens during the end-of-year season, when the manipulation of fireworks increases.
During the intervention, the uniformed officers carried out inspections and detected that the material was stored irregularly. The Police highlighted that the sale and improper handling of these items represents a significant risk for the community, especially for children and the elderly.

This procedure adds to the efforts that the Bogotá Metropolitan Police has carried out throughout 2025, with more than 2.3 tons of gunpowder seized in different locations in the city. In addition, more than 139 summonses have been issued for infractions related to the handling, possession and marketing of gunpowder.

The Ministry of Security called on the community to refrain from handling, storing or selling illegal gunpowder and highlighted the importance of reporting any irregular activity to Emergency Line 123. The coordination between the Police, the Mayor’s Office and the Ministry makes it possible to quickly identify illegal sales points, implement preventive measures and protect citizens during the celebrations.
The authorities insist that education and prevention are essential to avoid accidents and protect life. Complying with current regulations and reporting illegal activities are key measures to maintain security during the Christmas season.
