The EPM Lightings, one of the most beloved and representative symbols of Medellín in the Christmas season, face a worrying wave of thefts and acts of vandalism just days after their official lighting.

The company reported that, since November 28, when the 2025 edition was inaugurated with a tribute to the 350 years of Medellín and the 70 years of EPM, several facilities have been subject to theft of wiring and damage to figures made by hand by artisan mothers who are heads of households.

According to EPM, at least six points in the city have been affected by the theft of duplex cable, an essential element for the electrical connection of the luminous figures.

Among the impacted areas are Cristo Rey, La Floresta, Plaza Botero, Paseo del Río, the First Laureles Park and San Antonio de Prado. The most serious case occurred in Plaza Botero, where criminals took 65 meters of cable from the emblematic Christmas Tree, the twin of the one that shines on the Paseo del Río.

In addition to the thefts, acts of vandalism have also been recorded against figures from Pueblito Paisa, one of the most visited attractions during the Christmas tour.

These attacks put at risk a project that not only boosts tourism and the economy, but also generates employment for hundreds of families and creates safe spaces for citizen meetings.

EPM called on the community to take care of the lighting with a sense of belonging and report any irregularity to the authorities. He emphasized that these scenarios are the product of the manual work of artisans and a symbol of the December spirit that characterizes Medellín before the country and the world.
