An operation by the Directorate of Traffic and Transportation of the National Police allowed the interception of a drug van that was transporting 500 kilos of marijuana camouflaged among refrigerated viscera, a modality used by drug trafficking structures to evade controls on the country’s roads.
The procedure took place this Monday, November 24, in the San Pedro La Paz sector, jurisdiction of the municipality of Cimitarra, Santander.
According to the official report, the uniformed officers detected the drug van as a suspicious vehicle during search and control tasks.
When inspecting the cargo, they found that the narcotic was distributed in packages hidden among refrigerated products, which made it difficult to detect and kept the temperature of the shipment stable.

Two men, ages 37 and 40, were captured at the scene, who admitted to having received $20 million pesos to purchase the marijuana and hide it inside the refrigerated cargo. The vehicle was traveling on the Cali-Bucaramanga route and it is presumed that the final destination of the drugs was a regional distribution market.
In Colombia its value exceeds $900 million pesos, while in the international market it could cost more than $2.5 million dollars.
Those captured, the vehicle and the marijuana were placed at the disposal of the Cimitarra Prosecutor’s Office (Santander).
