A shipment of almost 100 kilos of marijuana was discovered in the last few hours in a national shipment warehouse at El Dorado airport, in Bogotá, during a control operation on parcels that are moved by air within the country.
The seizure occurred in the middle of a routine inspection led by units of the Anti-Narcotics Police, when ‘Kira’, a canine specialized in narcotics detection, reacted immediately by sniffing out a parcel that, at first glance, did not present irregularities.
The alert from the canine led the uniformed officers to review in greater detail two boxes that had been shipped as common cargo. When they opened them, they found dozens of packages wrapped in vinyl that contained a vegetable substance with characteristics and smell similar to marijuana.

After verification, the authorities confirmed that there were 166 packages of the narcotic, weighing approximately 100 kilos.
According to preliminary information, the shipment had been sent from the city of Armenia, in the department of Quindío, and had Santa Marta, in the Caribbean region, as its final destination.
This case once again highlights the modality that criminal organizations use to move large quantities of drugs through courier companies and air cargo warehouses, taking advantage of the high flow of parcels that move daily through the country’s main airport.
