The political controversy in Colombia intensifies after the partial disclosure of a “secret” report from the Financial Information and Analysis Unit (UIAF) that details the personal banking movements of President Gustavo Petro between 2023 and 2025. The document, prepared at the request of the Presidency due to alleged “alerts” in his accounts, reveals a wide flow of money and high-profile purchases abroad.
The report, which bears the confidential seal of the UIAF, identified 12 bank accounts in the name of the president in various entities. However, two of them, concentrated in BBVA, registered the greatest financial activity.
Banking Movements and Luxury Brands
According to the document, Petro’s accounts recorded income of $1,313 million pesos and outflows of $1,444 million pesos in the period analyzed. Although the income comes mainly from his presidential salary, the analysis of expenses has generated great media attention.
Among the transactions recorded in the report are purchases in recognized international luxury brands, including:
Gucci (Portugal)
Prada (United Arab Emirates)
Ralph Lauren
Louis Feraud
The report also details electronic payments, withdrawals and deposits, clarifying that, although the movements were analyzed, the UIAF does not conclude that there is a relationship with illegal acts, leaving verification to the receiving authorities.
Money transfers to close friends and the First Lady
The UIAF’s financial analysis also recorded movements of people close to the president. The report includes payments to the first lady, Verónica Alcocer, as well as transfers to Ingrid Carolina Plata Navas and even three women in her trusted circle: Laura Sarabia, Jesusita Quirós and Angie Rodríguez.
