Consternation and rejection have been generated in Cali by the death of a two-month-old baby who was under the care of a foundation contracted by the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF), south of the city.
The little boy was found lifeless in a gutter located outside the children’s home in the Ciudad JardÃn neighborhood.
According to preliminary versions, the minor would have been removed from inside the center and left in the water channel. Neighbors who witnessed the scene helped him and immediately took him to the Valle del Lili Clinic, where doctors confirmed his death despite resuscitation efforts.

The representative of Cali, Gerardo Mendoza, requested an urgent response from the authorities: “This situation requires clarity and immediate actions. The protocols and the sufficiency of the personnel in charge of caring for the children must be reviewed”he declared.

The Cali Ombudsman monitors the case and verifies the conditions of the other children inside the children’s home, to establish if there is any additional risk.
From Bogotá, the ICBF sent a special commission to investigate what happened and determine the responsibilities of the operator who was in charge of caring for the minor.
