Minute30.com .- Violence does not let up in central Mexico. A Sunday that should have been for sports recreation ended in a tragedy of national dimensions after an armed group broke into a soccer field in the state of Guanajuato, leaving a preliminary toll of 11 people dead and at least 12 injured, several of them in critical condition.

According to reports from local authorities, the attack occurred just after the end of a match, when players and fans were still gathered near the field.

Men in trucks had arrived at the scene, opened fire indiscriminately and once they finished the attack they fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Indiscriminate attack: A hail of bullets

Eyewitnesses recounted moments of terror when heavily armed individuals arrived at the scene and, without saying a word, began shooting indiscriminately at the crowd. Panic took over the attendees, who tried to take refuge in the stands and nearby vehicles while the attackers emptied their magazines.

The magnitude of the attack was evident during the judicial inspection: they found more than 100 shell casings of various calibers scattered throughout the soccer field.

Guanajuato: The epicenter of the criminal war

The state of Guanajuato is sadly consolidated as one of the most violent points in Mexico due to the fierce territorial dispute between drug cartels (mainly the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and remaining local groups). This type of attacks in public spaces seeks to sow terror and send messages of control among criminal organizations.

Victims: 11 confirmed deaths; 12 injured people were taken to local hospitals, several of them seriously.

Scene: More than 100 ballistic evidence collected.

Answer: A strong operation of the National Guard and the Army has been deployed in the area, although so far no arrests related to the massacre have been reported.

The event has generated a wave of indignation and condemnation. Mexican authorities face growing pressure to stop these massacres, which often affect civilians unrelated to the gang conflicts.

The area was cordoned off while efforts to identify the bodies were carried out.
