A quick reaction by the Police made it possible to thwart the theft of a vehicle in the El Gaitán neighborhood, in the town of Barrios Unidos, where two men—who already had records for similar crimes—were arrested after a short chase.
The case occurred when a citizen alerted a patrol from the Barrios Unidos Police Station: he claimed that two subjects had intimidated him with firearms and had taken his car. With the complaint in real time, the units activated the so-called padlock plan, a strategy that blocks possible escape routes and coordinates the action of the quadrants in the area.
As the operation progressed, the vehicle’s tracking system allowed it to be immobilized remotely. Given this, those allegedly involved abandoned him in the middle of the road and continued the escape in a second car.

Thanks to the characteristics provided by the victim and the police deployment in the sector, the uniformed officers managed to intercept them minutes later. When checking the vehicle in which they intended to escape, the agents detected alterations in its identification systems, made with adhesives to try to hide its origin.

The two captured were left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office. They must respond for the crimes of theft, trademark falsification and damage to another’s property. According to the Police, both had previous notes for theft.
The institution also provided a security report in the town: so far in 2025, Barrios Unidos has recorded a 16% reduction in vehicle theft, equivalent to 21 fewer cases than in the same period last year. In addition, 745 people have been captured this year for different crimes in that area of Bogotá.
For its part, the Ministry of Security insisted on the importance of reporting any criminal act through line 123, to activate reaction operations in time.
