In an unprecedented offensive against multicrime, the authorities of the Valle del Cauca capital managed to dismantle two of the most feared structures dedicated to micro-trafficking: ‘Los Calabria’ and ‘Los Yakuza’.

After 16 search procedures carried out simultaneously in Cali and the municipality of Tumaco (Nariño), the Metropolitan Police and the Attorney General’s Office captured 15 people accused of controlling the sale of drugs in communes 12 and 14.

This blow is vital for citizen security, since these gangs operated in school environments and parks, putting children and adolescents at direct risk.

The investigation against ‘Los Calabria’ lasted nine months, during which time undercover agents managed to infiltrate the organization that operated in eastern Cali.

This gang is not only attributed with the sale of 4,000 weekly doses of narcotics (which generated income of more than 80 million pesos per month), but also with the alleged responsibility for two homicides. The operation against micro-trafficking allowed the capture of 11 of its members and the indictment of two others who were already in prisons.

On the other hand, in the Eduardo Santos neighborhood, the sales line known as ‘The Yakuza’ fell. At this point, four men known with the aliases ‘Veneco’, ‘Plásico’, ‘Alfredo’ and ‘Muñoz’, who coordinated the distribution in Commune 12, were captured.

According to Colonel Andrés Arias, deputy commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, these subjects already had an extensive record of theft and murder. The fight against micro-trafficking in these neighborhoods also allowed the seizure of firearms, suppliers and more than 820 doses of hallucinogens ready to be sold.

Javier Garcés, Secretary of Security and District Justice, highlighted that this articulated work protects seven school environments that were under siege by these criminal networks.

All detainees were presented before guarantee control judges, who imposed an intramural security measure on them. The authorities recalled that to continue defeating these gangs, citizen reporting is essential through the Anti-Crime Line (321 394 51 56) or the emergency line 123, always guaranteeing absolute confidentiality.
