Colombian justice has taken a definitive step in the fight against transnational crime. In a filing released this Friday, February 6, the Criminal Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice issued a favorable opinion for the extradition of Dayonis Junior Orozco Castillo to Chile.
The Venezuelan citizen, 29 years old, is identified by the authorities as a dangerous member of the “Aragua Train” and the alleged perpetrator of the murder of the Carabineros major, Emmanuel Sánchez, which occurred in April 2024.
The high court determined that the request presented by the Government of Chile strictly complies with the requirements of the law and current treaties.
According to the filing, the crimes of homicide, kidnapping and criminal organization for which he is being investigated in Chile are also classified in Colombian legislation, which paves the way for his surrender.

Orozco Castillo had been captured in Popayán after an escape that crossed five countries, using false identities to try to reach Venezuela and evade the Interpol red notice.
Orozco’s danger is not minor; Chilean authorities link him to a faction of the Tren de Aragua dedicated to violent robbery and selective homicides.
In addition, his possible relationship with the media case of former military officer Ronald Ojeda is being investigated. During his detention at the Popayán transport terminal, the subject was carrying apocryphal documentation, but the fingerprint comparison and intelligence work allowed us to confirm that he was the man who shot at least 14 times at the Chilean uniformed man when he was trying to thwart a robbery.
Although the Supreme Court’s opinion is favorable, the physical delivery of the detainee is now in the hands of President Gustavo Petro.
The president must sign the final resolution in the coming days so that Orozco can be transferred from his detention center to Chilean territory under strict security measures.
