In a last minute move, the Bolivarian Sports Organization (Odebo) has confirmed a significant reduction in the number of sports and events that will be held in the next XX Bolivarian Games Ayacucho – Lima 2025.

The decision is based on the impossibility of gathering the necessary regulatory quorum or the presence of notable logistical difficulties in hosting certain disciplines.

This pruning in the program will affect a wide range of competitions, from athletics to new modalities such as E-sports, impacting the participation of athletes from the 17 countries that will attend the event.

The modifications have a full impact on fundamental sports. In athletics, several women’s events have been eliminated, including the 3,000-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, javelin throw, pole vault and marathon walk.

In the men’s branch, the high jump and hammer throw are left out of the program.

Boxing also suffers cuts, with the exclusion of the 70 and 75 kg weight categories. female and 90 kg. men, while basketball will say goodbye to the 3×3 and 5×5 modalities, and canoeing will not feature slalom.

Aquatic and team sports have been hit hard by the restructuring.

In diving, three women’s events are canceled: 10-meter platform, synchronized 10-meter platform and synchronized 3-meter springboard.

More drastically, women’s handball and water polo, both men’s and women’s, have been completely removed from the calendar.

These losses represent a blow for the delegations that counted on these sports to add medals to the medal table.

In addition to the traditional disciplines, several complete sports and specific modalities have also been left out of the Games. Disciplines such as muaythai, racquetball and climbing will not be contested.

Surprisingly, E-sports also suffered a setback with the cancellation of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competition in both branches.

Added to this are multiple cuts in aerobic gymnastics events (aerodance and trio), artistic swimming (mixed duet, women’s team and men’s only), and specific modalities of surfing, wushu, Basque pelota and sailing.

Despite the considerable decrease in the number of competitions, the XX Bolivarian Games Ayacucho – Lima 2025 maintain their celebration dates, taking place from Saturday, November 22 to Sunday, December 7.

This event, which will bring together athletes from 17 nations, will seek to offer a high-level sporting event, despite the important logistical and participation adjustments.

Odebo must now manage the implications of these cancellations to ensure the success and fairness of the remaining competitions.
