The Bogotá Metropolitan Police captured two people involved in a theft using glass breaking, thanks to the coordination between the community and the uniformed officers, which made it possible to thwart the escape of the alleged criminals.

The incident occurred in the town of Suba, where, according to the official report, a 46-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman broke the window of a vehicle to steal belongings. After committing the robbery, both tried to escape in a car, but were unable to get away before the victim and several neighbors alerted the authorities.

The timely complaint and the description of the vehicle allowed the Police to activate a blockade plan, which culminated in the La Perseverancia neighborhood, in the town of Santa Fe, where the uniformed officers intercepted the car in which those involved were traveling.

During the investigation, the police recovered several electronic elements and personal objects, which the victim recognized as his own after appearing before the authorities. Among the recovered assets was a suitcase that the affected person expressly identified as his, reinforcing the accusation of those captured for the theft.

Both the man and the woman were detained at the scene and taken to the Police facilities, from where they were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office. According to the authorities, both have more than 11 judicial notes for theft, which shows a criminal pattern that will be considered in the judicial process against them.

The Security Secretariat of Bogotá highlighted the relevance of citizen collaboration in the prevention and reaction to crime, while reminding vehicle owners of the importance of protecting their cars in monitored spaces to reduce the risk of theft through glass breaking or other forms of theft.
