Three people, two men and a woman, were prosecuted in Cali for their alleged participation in a series of violent robberies committed in different parts of the city, several of them while the victims were stopped at traffic lights.

The defendants, identified as John Zuluaga, Nathali Ruiz and Juan Ambuila, would be members of a criminal network that, according to the investigation by the Attorney General’s Office in coordination with the Sijín of the National Police, would have carried out at least seven robberies and one homicide since last September.

According to the evidentiary material, the group used motorcycles with adulterated license plates to escape quickly after the assaults. In most cases, the victims were intimidated with firearms, and the total value of the stolen objects exceeded 80 million pesos.

One of the most serious events occurred when a citizen who was traveling in his private vehicle was shot and killed while trying to resist a robbery. In addition, it was established that on at least one occasion those involved made bank transfers with money obtained illicitly.

The authorities captured Zuluaga and Ruiz on November 5 in public, while Ambuila was notified of the process in the prison where he was already being held for another crime.

A prosecutor from the Cali Section charged them with the crimes of conspiracy to commit aggravated crimes, qualified and aggravated robbery, theft by computer and similar means, illegal possession of firearms and trademark falsification. The three must remain under restraint in a prison while the investigation progresses.

The authorities reiterated their call to citizens to report any incident of theft or extortion, and recalled that the city’s surveillance devices and cameras have been fundamental in dismantling networks that affect security in the streets of Cali.
