The historic club FC Haka Valkeakoski, which has a record of 20 national titles, completed its relegation, a fact that unleashed the fury of some of its followers.
In an act of vandalism and desperation, allegedly a group of teenagers caused a fire that devastated one of the stands of their emblematic stadium, the Tehtaan kenttä.
This sports venue, originally built in 1934, was considered one of the most important stadiums in the Nordic country and a symbol of the Valkeakoski community.
Anger over the relegation of FC Haka, who finished last in Group B with just 17 points, resulted in the destruction of the final stand, which was made of wood.
The fire not only consumed the stands, but also partially damaged the playing field, leaving it unusable.

The event has generated deep consternation throughout the club’s structure. Marko Laaksonen, president of the board of directors of FC Hakan, regretted the incident, calling it a “hard blow for the entire club community.”
Laaksonen stated that “everyone, from the players to the fans, is deeply shocked. The event, surprising and uncontrollable, affects many and undermines the feeling of security.”
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the conflagration. The excellent and timely work of the Rescue Service and other operators was crucial in preventing the flames from spreading and protecting the rest of the buildings at the Tehtaas sports complex.
FC Haka will now not only have to face the reality of playing in a lower division, but also the arduous task of rebuilding part of its home, a collateral victim of sporting frustration.
