Minute30.com .- The Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro has once again shown his commitment to democracy… at his peculiar pace. In a gesture of political magnanimity, he has attempted to negotiate his departure from the presidency – which, according to much of the world, he fraudulently usurped – but with one small condition: a “transition” of two to three years. An irresistible offer that, of course, the White House has described as “unacceptable.”
President Donald Trump, determined to increase pressure on Venezuela, has made it clear that “any delay in the departure of the Chavista dictator is unacceptable.” Patience apparently ran out, especially after Maduro attempted a similar move with the Biden administration, a promise he conveniently forgot to proceed to steal the election before the eyes of the world. It is crucial to remember that these elections had Edmundo González as the face of the opposition, representing the disqualified María Corina Machado, whom the regime fears for her ability to democratically seize power.
While Maduro tries to negotiate his extension, US pressure only increases. It is reported that Trump has already given the go-ahead to the CIA to develop covert measures inside Venezuela. These operations, shrouded in the mystery that only intelligence can offer, appear to be intended to “prepare the battlefield” for future actions.
Although no one knows for sure what card Trump has up his sleeve, and military and CIA planners have various options ready for different contingencies, the only thing clear is that Maduro’s “offer” has been received with the same enthusiasm as a new line for gasoline: with a resounding rejection and the conviction that the end of this usurpation must be immediate.
