On a day that marked a milestone for the country’s sports infrastructure, the mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Char, announced the start of the casting of the structural pieces that will give life to the renovated Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium, now projected as the “Super Metro.”

Under the light of the floodlights and with a team working in double gear, the president personally supervised the works that progress tirelessly, both day and night.

The project enters a critical phase with the casting of the first 150 column-footings. To optimize delivery times.

The administration has implemented a prefabrication system that includes 150 high-strength concrete columns and footings and 1,800 beams that will be assembled directly on site.

Additionally, it was indicated that they are pieces weighing up to 20 tons, like the one that was cast during the mayor’s visit, which can be removed in just 18 hours.

“Today is a special day. We are casting the first piece of the new Metro structure. This year the stadium celebrates 40 years since its inauguration in 1986, and what better gift than giving the city the ‘Super Metro’ in 2026,” Char highlighted with enthusiasm.

Beyond cement and steel, the work is consolidated as a pillar for the economic reactivation of the capital of the Atlantic.

Currently, the construction is generating more than 700 direct jobs, benefiting hundreds of Barranquilla families.

According to the president, this transformation not only benefits professional sports and the Colombian National Team, but also enhances entertainment and the local economy, raising the profile of the city internationally.

“Barranquilla is at another level with its Metro,” concluded the mayor, reaffirming the commitment to deliver a modern work that lives up to the soccer passion of the “House of the National Team.”
