The construction of a mega-school in western Medellín is beginning to take shape. The mayor’s office announced the opening of an official call on the Secop II portal to select the company in charge of building the new San Javier Municipal School Section, located in commune 13.
This project is part of the 10 megaschools proposed in the 2024-2027 Development Plan and will benefit 320 preschool and primary school students.
According to the mayor’s office, the work will have an approximate area of 2,686 square meters and an investment that exceeds $22,000 million, resources destined to the adaptation of classrooms, common areas, recreational spaces and modern learning environments.
The commitment seeks to improve educational coverage in a sector with high population density and strengthen school infrastructure in one of the territories with the greatest social challenges in Medellín.

The call will be available both in the Medellín Opportunities Search engine and on the website of the Urban Development Company (EDU). There, interested companies will be able to consult the technical, financial and administrative requirements to participate in the process. It can now be reviewed directly on the Secop II platform.
According to the preliminary schedule, the award of the contract is scheduled for December 2025. Once the contractor is chosen, the start of works is projected for the beginning of 2026, with an estimated deadline that would allow the mega-school to be delivered during the first quarter of 2027.
The authorities reiterated that this project is part of the educational transformation strategy that seeks to offer safe, dignified and quality environments for the boys and girls of Medellín.
