For more than 18 hours, Cali authorities carried out a comprehensive operation in the Sucre neighborhood, in the center of the city, with the aim of preventing personal injuries, fights and crimes associated with carrying knives, as well as controlling the presence of irregular establishments and strengthening citizen coexistence.

The action had the participation of nearly 200 officials from different institutions: the Cali Metropolitan Police, the National Army, the district secretariats of Security, Justice, Mobility and Public Health, the Administrative Department of Environmental Management (Dagma) and Migration Colombia. The intervention is part of the recovery and transformation strategy of the center of Cali, which seeks to guarantee order and security in this area.

During the daytime operation, the authorities carried out searches of people, inspection of commercial establishments and background checks, in order to identify sources of risk for coexistence. In addition, Migration Colombia carried out the review of the documentation of foreigners, finding five in a regular situation and nine with irregularities, who were assigned a summons to open their username in the Foreigners Information and Registration System (SIRE).

In the night phase, security was reinforced with uniformed Metropolitan Police and soldiers from the National Army. In this framework, the seizure of more than 200 knives was achieved, items directly related to personal injuries and even homicides in the area, as explained by the deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police, Colonel Andrés Arias.

During the same operation, the authorities removed about 50 slot machines and ordered the temporary closure of five establishments, identified as concentration points for fights and consumption of psychoactive substances.

The Undersecretary of District Security, Natalia Zuluaga, stated that these interventions respond to needs felt by citizens: “In the center, situations of violence that affect coexistence are concentrated. We act in a comprehensive manner: controlling edged weapons, verifying irregular establishments and maintaining a sustained institutional presence to recover order and tranquility in the community,” she noted.

With these actions, the authorities seek to guarantee security, prevent violence and strengthen citizen coexistence in the center of Cali, giving continuity to operations that prioritize crime prevention, control of public space and protection of citizens.
