Minute30.com .- The councilor of Medellín, Andrés Felipe Rodríguez, popularly known as “Gury”, was involved in a violent incident of insecurity on the night of Tuesday, December 16 in the El Poblado neighborhood. While the corporation was holding a work meeting at a commercial establishment, an armed individual attempted to commit a robbery, triggering a rapid reaction from its security scheme.

According to the official statement issued by the councilor’s office, the attack occurred while he was in the company of David Toledo, candidate for the House of Representatives. An individual arrived at the scene and intimidated those present with a firearm, with the intention of stealing the belongings of the councilor and/or the owner of the establishment.

Faced with the imminent threat, the driver and escort assigned by the Medellín Council—who is a retired soldier from the National Army—acted in legitimate defense. Using his personal weapon, the bodyguard managed to neutralize the aggressor, who died at the scene as a result of the defensive reaction.

While the alleged criminal was killed, a second accomplice managed to escape the scene aboard a black motorcycle. The authorities have deployed a search operation to find the whereabouts of the fugitive, who would have headed towards the south of the city.

Within the preliminary investigations, they are also investigating the possible participation of a blue vehicle that would have served as support for the assailants. It is being analyzed whether this car carried out surveillance work prior to the robbery attempt or whether it helped in the escape of others involved.

Councilor Rodríguez confirmed that both he and the candidate David Toledo and the rest of the citizens present are in perfect health. “We act in defense of the personal integrity of the citizens present and our own,” the statement said, emphasizing that the use of force was a direct response to armed intimidation.

After the event, the members of the political team made themselves available to the competent authorities. Currently, the corresponding actions are being carried out before the Prosecutor’s Office and the Metropolitan Police to fully clarify the facts, providing the testimonies and evidence collected at the site of the exchange of shots.
