Minute30.com .- Shortly before 7 pm, when Colombia was waiting for Alvaro Uribe’s message, after being acquitted in Second Instance by the Superior Court of Bogotá, the former president sent a short but emotional message in which he thanked the support that he has felt from all sectors and reaffirmed his commitment to the country.

Message from Alvaro Uribe

Compatriots, very distinguished representatives of the media:

Thank God. Thanks to my lawyers: teacher Jaime Granados, his team headed by Dr. Barraza. Professor Jaime Lombana and his team with Dr. Guillermo Uribe. Young lawyers Juan Felipe Amaya, Franklim Guevara, Víctor Mosquera, Alejandro Sánchez.

Thank you for the company of my family who has suffered so much. To so many professionals who helped me prepare my defense, to take notes from all the hearings. Thanks for this to Carolina Escamilla, Julia Correa, and Isabel Mejía.

Thank you to all the media for your patience in this long process, regardless of politics. Thanks to Vicky Dávila, a Semana who published, they made the foundations of this process known to the public.

Thank you to my compatriots and so many people from the international community for their messages and above all for their prayers. I appreciate the solidarity of so many fellow fighters. I hope that people who have suffered this process, like Diego Cadena and Judge Álvaro Hernán Prada, can overcome the difficulties.

Today I remembered my professors at the University of Antioquia, with contrary ideas, like Carlos Gaviria and Nódier Agudelo. However, they instilled in the chair that the Majesty of Justice must be above politics.

They insisted to my colleagues who were preparing to be judges, that they should not judge perceptions about human beings, that they should restrict themselves to the comparison between the legal norm and the facts. They indicated that, in order to know the individual, they should delve deeper into him without being impressed by the judgments of friends or adversaries.

I offer my excuses to Justice and the Attorney General’s Office for all the time I have taken from them due to this process. The only guarantee I give you is that, throughout this extensive public life, I have told the truth to my compatriots.

I ask Providence for energy and calm discernment to work for Colombia. May he give me all the nobility to fight for this great people to whom I feel very proud to belong: the great Colombian people.
