Two men accused of supporting the armed operation of a criminal organization that commits crimes in the north of Valle del Cauca were captured in the last hours in the municipality of Toro. These are Marino Díaz, known as alias ‘El Cucho’, and Ferney Candelo, alias ‘Hugo’, who, according to judicial authorities, fulfilled key functions within the structure known as the ‘North Valley Office’.

According to the evidentiary material collected during the investigation, both would be part of the logistics component of the organization, a task considered decisive for the execution of selective homicides in municipalities such as Toro and La Unión. Their actions were aimed at facilitating the resources, movement and coordination necessary for the hitmen to carry out the attacks.

The investigations indicate that alias ‘El Cucho’, 64 years old, was responsible for managing the structure’s weapons, as well as delivering payments to those who carried out the murders. His role included the safekeeping of firearms and ammunition used in different violent acts attributed to this criminal organization.

For his part, alias ‘Hugo’, 37 years old, was in charge of mobilizing the hitmen to the points where the homicides would be committed, fulfilling transportation and operational support functions. This work allowed the attacks to be carried out in a coordinated manner and with less risk of prior detection.

According to court records, both men had criminal records for crimes such as qualified theft and illegal possession of weapons. In addition, the authorities established that ‘El Cucho’ would have remained within the criminal structure for nearly five years, while ‘Hugo’ would have an approximate career of four years serving the organization, which would operate under the command of alias ‘Seis’.

The captures were carried out simultaneously on public roads, one of them in the gallery sector and the other in the San José neighborhood, in Toro. Investigators from the SIJIN of the Valle Police participated in the operations, with support from the Police Service Model Oriented to People and Territories (MSPOPT), who made the court orders effective.

After being presented before a guarantee control judge, those captured were charged with the crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms and ammunition. The judge accepted the request of the Prosecutor’s Office and ordered a security measure in the prison while the investigations continue into his alleged participation in acts of violence that have affected security in this area of ​​the department.

The judicial authorities continue with the process to determine the possible connection of the detainees in other crimes and the extent of their participation within the criminal network that operates in the north of Valle del Cauca.
