The fight for the presidential candidacy in the Democratic Center (CD) has escalated to a level of maximum tension after the publication of a letter from the party’s National Directorate that harshly questions the pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Londoño for alleged actions to influence the internal consultation.
The letter, signed by the party director, Gabriel Vallejo, and addressed directly to Uribe Londoño, confronts him for what the party considers a serious offense in trying to manage a relationship with the pollster ATLASINTEL before it was officially selected to measure the pre-candidates.
Direct Accusation: Improper Contact with Demoscopic Signature?
The Democratic Center not only dismisses Uribe’s concerns about the transparency of the selection process, but shifts the burden of proof and puts him on the defensive. The letter demands clarification on the reported contacts.
“We require that you confirm or deny the information according to which your team would have attempted an approach with the firm ATLASINTEL before it was officially selected, which would result in a flagrant violation of the transparency agreements signed by all pre-candidates,” the document states.
The party emphasizes that the consultation’s internal oversight committee does not have the power to manage external surveys and calls the reported action of Uribe Londoño’s team potentially unethical and improper.
A High Political Warning
The tone of the statement from the National Directorate is a severe warning, suggesting that the pre-candidate’s actions could compromise the fairness of the race. The party reminds Uribe of the need to observe internal statutes and refrain from any action that could be interpreted as an attempt to take advantage.
The CD’s response comes just after Senator Uribe Londoño publicly expressed his distrust in the process, fueling the narrative of a possible bias in the selection of the firms that will carry out the survey. The party, however, has opted for a direct counterattack, calling into question the conduct of the pre-candidate himself instead of limiting itself to defending the process.
The Ethics Committee, at the Center of the Storm
This intersection of accusations places the party’s Ethics Committee in a central position, as it is the body that could be called to evaluate whether the alleged action of Uribe’s team constitutes an offense punishable within the community.
