The Colombia Women’s U-20 National Team is advancing steadily in its preparation for the CONMEBOL South American category in 2026.
Under the technical direction of Carlos Paniagua, the team of 23 players carries out its second microcycle of the year in Bogotá, which began on November 12.
To date, the coaching staff has completed ten training sessions, which have included double session days and friendly warm-up matches against local clubs, with the primary objective of optimizing the team’s playing principles.
The sessions have focused on key aspects such as ball circulation, passing precision and defensive order in the medium and high block.
Special attention has been devoted to line work to strengthen the start from the back, the association in the midfield and the decision making in the last third of the field.
In addition, the preparation has integrated video analysis to correct tactical details and consolidate collective behaviors, as well as regenerative and load adjustment work to ensure the optimal physical condition of the athletes.
The group’s commitment is palpable. The player Zarahay González highlighted the honor of the concentration: “It will always be a pride to represent a country (…) our South American is coming to work for to return to the World Cup.”
For her part, the experienced Juana Ortegón highlighted the importance of these preparation cycles and the adaptation of the new members.

“We are very happy because we are going to have preparation cycles and international commitments… there are many of us who already know the job of the ‘teacher’ so it is important to welcome the players who arrive.”
Finally, the recent transfer to Angel City FC (USA), Maithe López, highlighted the relevance of this preparation for the growth of Colombian women’s soccer.
The forward commented that leaving the country at a young age “is something very difficult, but it makes you grow as a footballer and a person.”
“So it is important to open the doors to Colombian soccer players.” With this pace of work, the national team seeks to arrive in the best conditions at the international event.
