In a letter addressed to the mayor of Rionegro, Jorge Humberto Rivas, the directors of Águilas Doradas expressed their concern about the disabling of the stage, warning that the decision violates “legitimate trust” and puts their participation in the tournament at risk.
The future of Águilas Doradas in its usual headquarters is at a crossroads. Through an official communication, the club expressed its disagreement with the decision of the Mayor of Rionegro and the IMER to disable the Alberto Grisales stadium for the start of the season.
This, the club has said, was a measure that, according to the team, was notified late and without prior spaces for consultation.
In the letter, the team emphasizes that the notification of the closure was received on December 30, the date on which the DIMAYOR calendar was already approved.
The club argues that this breaks the principle of legitimate trust, affecting the sporting, contractual and operational planning that had already been structured.
The letter cites examples such as El Campín or Atanasio Girardot, where adaptations have been made for FIFA and CONMEBOL events without suspending Colombian Professional Football (FPC) matches. According to the club, there are technical alternatives to play while the works are being done.
The team warns that the roots built in Rionegro for years are compromised by this “harmful” decision that did not take into account technical work tables.
Águilas Doradas emphasized that on January 8 they sent a communication reiterating their willingness to dialogue, but that so far they have not received any response from the local government.
Águilas Doradas in suspense: The club claims “lack of dialogue” before the closure of the Alberto Grisales stadium
“Talento Dorado SA reiterates that it shares the interest in the modernization and safety of the stages, but considers it necessary to warn about the impact generated on the normal development of the championship,” the document reads.
While the institutional situation is resolved, the club has confirmed that it continues to manage alternatives to ensure a space to compete in the current season, although they maintain their intention to exhaust the means of dialogue with the Mayor’s Office of Rionegro so as not to abandon the city that has been their home.
The legendary Cincuentenario stadium in Medellín is seen as an alternative for the team from eastern Antioquia, however, it has not yet been confirmed.
Águilas begins its season in the first half of 2026, playing as a visitor against Independiente Santa Fe in El Campín de Bogotá.
