In a solemn ceremony held at the Cultural Center of the Fraternidad Campus, Alejandro Villa Gómez officially took office as Rector of the ITM University Institution for the statutory period 2025-2029. Under the premise of “Excellence and Innovation”, Villa assumes leadership with the overwhelming support of the Board of Directors, which ratified his appointment with 8 of the 9 possible votes last October.

The event was attended by managers, teachers, business leaders and figures from the local public sphere, who witnessed the beginning of a management that promises to transform the ITM into an engine of regional development connected to global demands.

A roadmap towards the “University of the Future”

The rector’s proposal, titled “Excellence and Innovation for Sustainable Territorial Development, inclusive and connected to the world”, is structured in six strategic lines that seek not only academic quality, but also the administrative transition towards University status.

Among the fundamental pillars are the consolidation of an ecosystem of Science, Technology and Innovation for social transformation, comprehensive well-being management and an “ITM Without Borders” policy.

Modernization and Cutting-Edge Technology

One of the most ambitious challenges of the new rector is to align public higher education with the competencies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Villa Gómez emphasized the need to integrate key areas into the curriculum such as:

“We want to grow in relevant academic offerings, in numbers of enrolled students and in teaching staff, but to do so we must have a physical and technological infrastructure that accompanies us from a functional and aesthetic point of view,” said the Rector during his speech.

Bet on Wellbeing and the Arts

Beyond technology, the new administration will put a special focus on human development. Villa announced the creation of the School of Arts and Crafts and a High Performance Center for athletes and artists, seeking to strengthen the university’s comprehensive well-being system.

Profile and Career

Alejandro Villa Gómez, lawyer and Master in Political Studies, has more than a decade of experience in senior educational and public management. His deep knowledge of the institution—where he has already served as Rector and Secretary General—together with his teaching experience, give him a comprehensive vision to lead this new stage of consolidation and expansion of the ITM.
