The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, did not stay at his desk and personally led a ‘megatake’ in Parque Lleras on the night of January 8 and early Friday, January 9.

The balance of the operation in Parque Lleras was overwhelming: establishments sealed, weapons seized and more results.

With a deployment of 300 officials from the Police, the Army, the Prosecutor’s Office and various secretariats, the authorities carried out thorough inspections in 15 nightclubs.

The result of the authorities included the suspension of activities of two businesses due to irregularities and the imposition of 44 summonses for behavior contrary to coexistence.

In the security aspect, a traumatic weapon, five knives and 30 grams of narcotics circulating in the area were seized.

Minors were rescued

The intervention also put the spotlight on the protection of children and mobility. Two minors were transferred to restore their rights, removing them from possible risks of exploitation in adult environments.

For its part, the Ministry of Mobility immobilized four cars and four motorcycles that did not have their papers up to date.

This surprise operation is not an isolated event, but part of a strategy to stop recurring problems such as excessive noise, fights and improper occupation of public space.

Social Inclusion Teams and the Noise Group were also present to verify that the rumba did not affect the tranquility of the residents. The Mayor’s Office warned that these controls will continue to be frequent and “without prior notice” to guarantee legality in the area.
