Looking ahead to the 2026 presidential elections, six figures from the national political scene announced the formation of The Great Consulta for Colombia, an alliance that will seek to define a single candidate through a popular consultation scheduled for March 8, 2026. The mechanism will coincide with the elections to the Congress of the Republic and is emerging as one of the broadest selection processes within the political spectrum not aligned with ideological extremes.

The coalition is made up of Mauricio Cárdenas, from the Avanza Colombia movement; Vicky Dávila, from the Valientes Movement; Juan Manuel Galán, of New Liberalism; Aníbal Gaviria, from Unidos: The Strength of the Regions; David Luna, from the Sí Hay Un Camino movement, and Juan Daniel Oviedo, from Con Todo por Colombia. The six agreed to submit their presidential aspirations to an open consultation, whose winner will be supported by all members of the alliance in the first presidential round.

According to what was reported, the objective of this convergence is to offer a political alternative that prioritizes national unity, public experience and evidence-based decision making, with emphasis on transparency and the fight against corruption. The promoters of the initiative pointed out that the project does not respond to traditional political leaders and seeks to differentiate itself from both the ruling party and the most radical positions on the political scene.

The presidential consultation will be held simultaneously with the legislative elections, using the same electoral logistics. This implies that citizens will receive, along with the card for the Senate and Chamber, an additional card to participate in the election of the presidential candidate of this coalition, without representing additional costs for the State.

The coalition stressed that it is an open project and that the mechanism remains available for new candidates who identify with the group’s principles and accept the rules of the consultation before the formal start of the campaign.

With this announcement, the electoral panorama towards 2026 begins to be outlined with the articulation of several leaderships that are committed to a participatory mechanism prior to the first presidential round, in the search for a common proposal to address the country’s main challenges.
