In the morning hours of this Thursday, December 18, a shooting occurred in the town of Tunjuelito, in Bogotá, which left one criminal dead after the armed reaction of a bodyguard assigned to the National Protection Unit (UNP).
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the El Tunal hospital, when several men traveling on motorcycles tried to commit a robbery against a social leader who had a security scheme.
According to preliminary information, the criminals intended to steal the high-end truck in which the victim was traveling.
During the attempted robbery, the UNP escorts reacted using their service weapon, which led to an exchange of gunfire. In the middle of the shooting, one of the alleged thieves was seriously injured, fell from the motorcycle he was riding on and died minutes later at the scene.

The Bogotá Metropolitan Police confirmed that the deceased man was carrying a traumatic weapon and had a criminal record for theft.
The area was cordoned off while judicial units carried out urgent actions and the collection of evidence to clarify what happened.
The authorities indicated that a formal investigation was opened to precisely establish the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibilities.
