On the afternoon of this Wednesday, January 28, citizens reported the collapse of the asphalt layer on the road that descends towards the roundabout of the Monterrey Shopping Center, in Medellín.
The images are shocking: the force of the groundwater and the overflow of the drainage systems literally lifted the asphalt layer, leaving the road completely impassable and with deep cracks that represent a mortal danger for motorcyclists.
This damage to the infrastructure adds to the mobility chaos that was already being experienced in the El Poblado and Manila sectors. The pressure of the water, a product of the historic downpour, not only flooded the roads, but also undermined the base of the road, causing the asphalt to fracture into large pieces.

Given the magnitude of the damage, the mobility authorities have had to completely restrict the passage down to the Monterrey roundabout.

It is recommended that those traveling along Las Vegas Avenue or Regional Avenue look for immediate detours, as the traffic jam in the south of the District is total.
The mayor of Medellín and the DAGRD team already have a report of this situation, which is added to the collapse of walls and overflowing of streams previously reported. While firefighters attend to the emergency on the Transversal Superior, emergency crews move towards the Monterrey sector to mark the road and prevent unsuspecting drivers from falling into the enormous pits left by the lifting of the asphalt.
