The Attorney General’s Office legalized before a guarantee control judge the seizure of a shipment of merchandise that would be contraband, valued at more than 19 billion pesos.
The seized items were found in three containers at the port terminal of Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca).
The seizure operation was carried out by uniformed Tax and Customs Police (Polfa), after finding inconsistencies in the import documents of the merchandise entered into the country by an importing company.
With the coordination of a sectional prosecutor, members of the Polfa opened the first container that contained more than 18 thousand pairs of sports shoes of different brands and colors, manufactured abroad, and 310 units of plastic chairs.
In the second container, 17,544 pairs of sports shoes, of different sizes and colors, and 2,000 units of glass containers for perfumes, of foreign origin, were found.
For its part, in the last container, 17,300 pairs of leather footwear in different brands and styles and 430 units of glass containers for perfumery were seized.
Due to this seizure, the Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation for the crime of smuggling.
