Colombia wakes up with a wrinkled heart after confirming the magnitude of the air tragedy that occurred last Wednesday, January 28 in the department of Norte de Santander. A Beechcraft 1900 plane, with registration HK4709 and operated by the Searca company for the Satena airline, crashed to the ground in the jurisdiction of the municipality of La Playa de Belén, leaving 15 people dead.

The accident, which occurred while the aircraft was covering the route between Cúcuta and Ocaña, has unleashed a massive deployment of relief agencies and aviation authorities.

Since the early hours of this Thursday, January 29, Satena reported sending an interdisciplinary team to the cities of Cúcuta and Ocaña in order to provide psychosocial support and direct accompaniment to the families of the victims.

Aerocivil, for its part, has already begun expert assessment work in the accident area to collect evidence to establish whether the accident was due to technical failures, climatic factors or human error.

The aircraft had lost contact with the Camilo Daza Airport control tower shortly after takeoff, which activated a distressing search that ended with the discovery of the remains yesterday afternoon.

The state airline issued an official statement expressing its deep pain and solidarity: “The entire organization is committed to supporting them with respect and humanity in this very difficult time,” company spokespersons said.

A press conference is planned at the La Hacarítama Hotel in Ocaña to provide technical details about the state of the aircraft before the accident and the latest messages recorded by the crew. Meanwhile, the families wait for the transfer of the bodies to Forensic Medicine for identification work.

This unfortunate event has generated national commotion, since the Cúcuta-Ocaña route is vital for the connectivity of a region historically hit by public order and geographic difficulties.

The investigations into the accident are progressing under confidentiality, while three main hypotheses are being analyzed that would explain why the plane ended up impacting the rural area of ​​La Playa de Belén. Satena and Searca assured that the emergency protocols were activated from the first minute of the disappearance, but the violence of the impact left no survivors.
