The Mayor’s Office of Medellín, through Sapiencia and in coordination with the Metropolitan Area, announced the opening of 50,000 new spaces to access the benefit of the Metro ticket with a differential rate during 2026.
This strategy, designed for students who are part of the Zero Enrollment and Sapiencia Funds programs, seeks to alleviate the pockets of young people and their families, guaranteeing that the cost of transportation is not an impediment to attending classes and completing their academic cycles.
Those selected for this benefit will be able to enjoy a reduced rate of only $1,600 per trip, allowing up to 60 monthly trips without time restrictions.
This year, places will be distributed in four massive calls to cover the demand of higher education institutions. The ticket under the “Student Profile” modality is one of the most loved tools by the educational community, since it represents a significant saving compared to the current commercial rate in the mass system.

To apply for this benefit, those interested must meet specific requirements: reside in strata 1, 2 or 3, be between 10 and 28 years old (except for people with disabilities) and live at a distance of more than one kilometer from their training center.
The mayor’s office emphasized that priority will be given to victims of the armed conflict, the population of ethnic groups and people with disabilities, reaffirming the social equity approach of the capital of Antioquia in access to education.
The registration process is carried out virtually through the official Sapiencia portal or directly with the educational institutions. It is essential to remember that this support is personal and non-transferable; Improper use of the personalized Civic card for this benefit can lead to serious penalties, including the permanent loss of the subsidy.
