The business world and the fashion industry in Colombia are in mourning. In the last few hours, the death of Roque Ospina Duque, the man whose vision transformed Medellín into the Latin American capital of design and clothing, was confirmed.
After facing serious cardiac complications that worsened in recent days, the former director left leaving an immense void in the textile sector, but also a legacy that today is the economic engine of thousands of Antioquia families.
Roque Ospina Duque was not just another businessman; He was the architect behind Inexmoda and the creator of the most powerful platforms on the continent: Colombiatex de las Américas and Colombiamoda.
His path in the textile world began from the base, getting to know the looms, weaving processes and quality control closely, which allowed him to understand that fashion was not only aesthetic, but a productive chain capable of generating massive employment and attracting foreign investment.

The reactions have not been long in coming. Institutions such as the Antioquia Society of Engineers (SAI) and Inexmoda have expressed their deep regret, describing him as a visionary leader who knew how to articulate the talent of designers with the strength of the large company.
“His legacy lives on in every job created and in the trust he built around an industry that today is national pride”they pointed out from Inexmoda.
His departure comes just a few days before the 38th edition of Colombiatex begins, an event that he helped found and that this year expects more than 30,000 visitors.
The death of Roque Ospina Duque marks the end of an era for the union, but his name will remain engraved in the history of Colombia’s productive development.
