In the midst of the road emergency experienced on the La Limona bridge, the authorities enabled a provisional one-way lane for motorcycles and pedestrians on the afternoon of this Friday, January 16, with the aim of alleviating the mobility problems between Itagüí and the San Antonio de Prado district, in Medellín.

The Medellín Mobility Secretariat confirmed that the crossing will operate under a controlled schedule: between 5:00 am and 1:00 pm, the lane will operate in the San Antonio de Prado–Itagüí direction; while from 1:00 pm to 5:00 am, traffic will be in the direction of Itagüí–San Antonio de Prado.

The measure seeks to reduce travel times for motorcyclists and pedestrians, who have been the most affected after the total closure of the bridge.

The opening of the lane is part of the contingency plan implemented after the undermining detected in the structure of the La Limona bridge, caused by the heavy rains of the current winter season.

Although the failure occurred in the jurisdiction of Itagüí, the authorities of both municipalities maintain coordinated work to address the emergency.

A wide institutional deployment remains in the area with 37 traffic agents, distributed between Medellín, Itagüí and La Estrella, who carry out control, regulation and road guidance tasks at strategic points. At the same time, we are awaiting the technical assessment and structural diagnosis of the bridge, carried out by the competent authorities of Itagüí, which will allow the following interventions to be defined.

While technical decisions are being made, the Medellín Mobility Secretariat reiterated the call to use the new Itagüí–San Antonio de Prado road, prioritize public transportation and avoid trips that are not strictly necessary.
