The Attorney General’s Office formally opened this Tuesday, November 18, an investigation to establish whether the Military Forces omitted the protocols of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the recent bombings of camps of the dissidents of alias ‘Iván Mordisco’.
This decision is made after confirmation by Forensic Medicine of the death of 15 minors who had been recruited by these armed factions.
According to sources from the entity, the Special Directorate against Human Rights Violations will ask the Military Criminal Justice to send the complete files on the air attacks. The objective is to review in detail the operations that were carried out from August to date in rural areas of Caquetá, Guaviare and Arauca, where the deaths of the recruited adolescents occurred.

The National Government, led by President Gustavo Petro, has defended the legality of the bombings of camps, ensuring that the Armed Forces acted under the parameters of IHL. Despite calls from the Ombudsman’s Office to stop this type of attack, the Government has been emphatic that it will not suspend it as long as current regulations are complied with.
Additionally, the Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating illicit recruitment by FARC dissidents, seeking the location of the relatives of the deceased minors, some of whom were reported missing.
It should be noted that the Military Criminal Justice, on a holiday Monday, had already opened its own investigation with the purpose of “objectively verify whether the actions used by members of the Public Force were in accordance with the principles and rules that guide the legitimate use of force in the context of the armed conflict.”
Likewise, the Attorney General’s Office opened a preliminary case at the disciplinary level. In this way, three different control bodies will simultaneously review the legality and compliance with protocols in military operations.
