Justice closed one of the most serious cases of armed attack recorded in Medellín in recent years. A criminal judge in the city sentenced Sergio, known by the alias ‘Sopotropo’, to 41 years and 7 months in prison for his direct participation in a violent event that left a woman dead and several people injured.

The armed attack occurred in the early morning of January 1, 2025, in the Doce de Octubre neighborhood, when a group of men traveling on motorcycles opened fire on several people who were gathered in front of a house.

A woman of approximately 48 years old died at the scene, while five other people were injured, including a teenager.

The investigations carried out by the Attorney General’s Office made it possible to establish that the incident would be related to disputes between criminal structures that commit crimes in that area of ​​Medellín.

According to the accusing body, the attack was not a product of chance, but rather a planned action within an urban armed conflict for territorial control.

During the judicial process, alias ‘Sopotropo’ was found guilty of the crimes of homicide, attempted homicide and illegal possession of firearms, all in aggravated form.

The judge evaluated the evidentiary material presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, which included testimonies, ballistic analyzes and other technical elements that made it possible to clarify the responsibility of the convicted person in the attack.

The judicial bodies reiterated their commitment to continue advancing in the processes against other possible parties involved in the case.
