Mauricio Lizcano is emerging as one of the candidates for the presidential race in Colombia in 2026. With studies at the Universidad del Rosario, Harvard and MIT, Lizcano combines political experience, technical knowledge and a reformist vision that seeks a “strong hand and a social hand” to face the country’s main challenges.
His career includes positions as Representative to the Chamber, Senator of the Republic and advisor to national entities. Furthermore, his leadership was consolidated after the difficult experience of the kidnapping of his father, former congressman Óscar Tulio Lizcano, an event that marked his public vocation and his commitment to security and justice.
Proposals by Mauricio Lizcano
In educational matters, Lizcano proposes a structural approach focused on early childhood, with the aim of guaranteeing equal opportunities from the earliest years.
It also proposes full coverage in secondary school (from 9th to 11th grade) and the creation of 750 thousand new university places, divided between SENA, private and public universities, with emphasis on technological and digital training.

Regarding health, his proposal seeks to transform the current EPS system: he proposes paying for care and quality, not by number of members, to eliminate incentives that delay services.
In security, he promises to end the “total peace” policy, arguing that it has favored impunity. Instead, it proposes to recover the territory with technology, intelligence and state presence, strengthen rewards, eliminate extortion and bring social investment to the most needy areas.
Mauricio Lizcano thus proposes a presidency with firm authority against criminals and a real commitment to the development of the most vulnerable communities.
