The Colombian National Police captured a man who was transporting 4,000 milliliters of ketamine on an intermunicipal bus that covered the Popayán–Pereira route.
The operation was carried out by uniformed officers from the Directorate of Transit and Transportation on the Andalucía – Ye de Cerritos road, near the Cerritos II toll, in the department of Risaralda.
During the procedure, the agents carried out a routine inspection of the public service vehicle and found the substance in the luggage of a 31-year-old passenger, a native of Ipiales (Nariño). According to authorities, the liquid was hidden in a suitcase and would be used for illicit purposes.
Ketamine is a veterinary anesthetic that has been diverted by criminal organizations for recreational consumption, due to its hallucinogenic and central nervous system depressant effects. On the illegal market, it is often mixed with other synthetic drugs, increasing the risk of loss of consciousness, disorientation and serious neurological damage.
The captured person and the seized material were left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (URI Pereira) for the crime of drug trafficking.
