President Gustavo Petro ordered the suspension of all Colombian military support for international operations that involve the use of missiles or disproportionate force.

The instruction was released after highlighting an operation by the National Navy in the central Pacific, which allowed the seizure of 2.8 tons of cocaine “without a single death.”

“All support by Colombian military personnel for operations that use missiles and disproportionate force must be suspended”the president wrote in his ‘X’ account, referring to his government’s policy of prioritizing respect for life and the humanistic approach in security and defense strategies.

According to the official report, the National Navy intercepted a Go Fast type speedboat within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, achieving the capture of three crew members (one Colombian and two Ecuadorians) and the seizure of 2,796 packages of cocaine hydrochloride, with a net weight of 2,782 kilograms.

Petro assured that this result demonstrates “the greatest efficiency in the world in the seizure of illicit drugs” and reiterated that its anti-drug policy seeks decisive blows to drug trafficking “without bloodshed.”

The president insisted that the use of missiles or operations with disproportionate force is not necessary to obtain effective results in the fight against drug trafficking.
