President Gustavo Petro responded forcefully to recent statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who assured that he does not rule out the possibility of carrying out an operation in Colombian territory.
The statements generated an immediate reaction from the Colombian head of state, who defended national sovereignty and rejected any foreign intervention.
The president also referred to the statements of the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to whom he responded by assuring that the Colombian Government maintains an active fight against drug trafficking. Petro affirmed that political sectors of the country would be providing false information with interests linked to mafia structures.
In this context, the president revealed that he made internal decisions within the Public Force. According to what he indicated, he ordered the retirement of several intelligence colonels from the National Police for allegedly providing erroneous information that, in his opinion, affects the credibility of the Colombian State before foreign governments.

Petro warned about the risks of a military intervention without knowledge of the territory. He assured that bombings without adequate intelligence could cause the death of civilians, including children, and would end up fueling the armed conflict. In his words, an action of this type would only cause the emergence of new armed structures in rural areas of the country.
“If you bomb just one of these groups without sufficient intelligence, you will kill many children. If you bomb peasants, they will become thousands of guerrillas in the mountains”reads his message in X.
The president went further and stated that, faced with an extreme scenario such as a possible arrest of the Colombian head of state, an important part of the citizens would take to the streets in his defense.
Finally, the president maintained that, although he is not a career military man, he knows the dynamics of war and clandestinity, and recalled that since the 1989 peace agreement he swore never to pick up a weapon again. However, he stated that: “For the country I will take up again the weapons I do not want.”
Today I will see if Trump’s English words are translated as the national press says. Therefore, I will answer them later until I know what Trump’s illegitimate threat really means.
As for Mr. Rubio, who separates authorities from the president and says that…
