President Gustavo Petro referred again this Thursday, December 11, to the US president, Donald Trump, with whom he has had tense exchanges in recent weeks.
During the Council of Ministers, the Colombian head of state surprised by announcing that he will extend a formal invitation to Trump to visit the country and observe “on the ground” operations against drug trafficking.
“Let the chancellor make the formal invitation. Trump will see if he wants to see, or not, the reality of our struggle in the field itself, with the essential security measures,” declared Petro, pointing out that he is ready to show the American president the destruction of laboratories, which according to the president occurs on average every 40 minutes.
Petro insisted that Trump is uninformed about the Colombian situation and that his “interlocutors” They would not be giving you truthful information.
He recalled that his government has carried out more than 1,496 ground combats, 13 bombings, and has managed to seize more than 2,700 tons of cocaine.
The statements come after Trump again accused Colombia of increasing drug production and warned that Petro “will be next” on a list of countries with which the United States would take strong measures, similar to what happened with Venezuela. “I hope you’re listening,” said the American president.
Petro also explained that the fight against drug trafficking is not limited to taking down “factories” as Trump imagines: “He thinks it’s a building, and it turns out it’s just a stick and some sticks… If he fires a missile at them, he throws away the United States’ money.”
