Minute30.com .- Through his official account on X, President Gustavo Petro confirmed the death of José Gonzalo Sánchez, alias ‘Gonzalito’, second in command of the Gulf Clan criminal structure. The president confirmed the version of the river accident, pointing out that the feared leader died “drowned.”
The presidential message not only validates the report of the judicial authorities, but also establishes the roadmap for the recovery of the criminal’s remains in the jungles of Tierralta, Córdoba.
Delivery of the body: OAS and indigenous communities
The process of recovering the body will have a humanitarian component and international verification, as detailed by the head of state:
The body of ‘Gonzalito’ is currently in the possession of the indigenous communities of the area, who would have been witnesses or first responders after the accident in the river.
The OAS Peace Process Support Mission will receive the remains from the communities to guarantee the transparency of the procedure.
Petro specifically ordered Brigade 11 of the National Army to carry out the necessary deployment to collect the body and transfer it to Forensic Medicine.
The end of an era in the Gulf Clan
With the death of ‘Gonzalito’, the Gulf Clan loses its main military strategist and the man who controlled the Roberto Vargas Gutiérrez Bloc, with influence in Antioquia, Córdoba and Sucre. This event occurs at a time of maximum tension, just when the Government was trying to establish temporary location points for peace talks.
